Overview
Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye. Ophthalmology literally means "the science of eyes". The broad goal of undergraduate teaching in ophthalmology is to provide such knowledge and skills to the student that shall enable him/her to practice as an internist and as a primary eye care physician, and also to function effectively as a community health leader to assist in the implementation of National Programme for the Prevention of blindness.

Facilities and Services : Department of General Surgery has been provided with-

- Demonstration room
- Clinical teaching in OPD
- Out Patient service having separate consultation rooms for faculty, refraction room, facilities for minor Operation Theater,
- Department Library
- Audio-visual teaching Aids with LCD projector for power point presentations of didactic Lectures / Seminars, OHP projector, facilities of Internet connection for Faculty, SLR camera for operative, clinical and research photograph.
- Surgical Museum with mounted specimens, catalogues, photographs and potraits of emineient Ophthalmic surgeons
- Indoor Ophthalmic surgical male & female wards with free medicine, food and laboratory and radiological investigations
- Independent Modular Operation Theaters for routine and emergency surgery
- Accident & Emergency department after OPD hours
- All Major and Minor and Life-saving emergency surgeries and Day-care facilities
- Outreach surgical activities though regular Camps , conducted in a remote area and Free transport for patients, require admission for surgery in hospital
- Periodically organised camps at peripheral areas around dahod and remote areas to reach to the poorest blind population, as a part of multi-diagnostic camps.
